Quarantine Exemption Agreement Korea

March 24, 2022

South Korean diplomatic missions in the UK now issue most types of long-term visas, including work visas. The visa on arrival for UK passport holders remains in place, although you should be aware of the quarantine requirements listed below. You should check the visa requirements at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in London. Travelers must obtain a Korean Electronic Travel Authorization (K-ETA) to enter South Korea without a visa, see “Regular Entry Requirements.” If you have a British citizenship passport, you can enter South Korea as a tourist for up to 90 days without a visa, although you should stay aware of quarantine rules. You must also have a continuation or return ticket. It is illegal to work on a tourist visa, either as a teacher or in another capacity. Quarantine exemptions will continue to be granted only if you reside outside of South Korea, and only for business and academic travelers, government officials, or if you are traveling to Korea for the funeral of a close family member. You can apply for a quarantine exemption from the Korean embassy in the country where you were vaccinated. “Family member” is defined as your spouse, a brother or sister of you or your spouse, or a “linear” family member (parents/grandparents or children/grandchildren) of you or your spouse. Advice is available from the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in London. All certificates of family relationship in the UK (i.e. marriage or birth certificates) that you submit as part of your application must be legalised (or “apostilled”) by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office before submitting them. Learn how to legalize a document.

South Korea does not accept marriage certificates or civil partnership documents between same-sex partners for the purposes of applying for quarantine exemption. If you are traveling for professional or academic purposes, you must obtain special permission from the relevant Korean ministries. If you are travelling for business, your employer can apply through the Business Support Centre (in Korean). Short-term foreigners can switch to self-quarantine: The standard requirement when entering South Korea is to quarantine for 10 days at home (if you are a resident of South Korea) or at a government quarantine center (if you are visiting). You can avoid quarantine altogether if you have a “quarantine exception”. If you are visiting, you can quarantine with relatives if you can prove your relationship with them and if their accommodation meets certain standards. All other short-term foreign travellers must quarantine for 10 days at a government-designated facility. Individuals have to pay a daily fee of around KRW 120,000 (around £75) at the state`s quarantine facilities. Applicants for the Quarantine Exemption Certificate must travel to Korea with a visa for B-1 (visa-free), B-2 (visa-free), C-1, C-3, C-4, D-7, D-8, D-9, E-7, F-4, F-5 or F-6.

Quarantine exemption certificates issued must be printed (3 copies) and presented to quarantine and immigration officers upon entry into the Republic of Korea. Upon entering the Republic of Korea, the person receives a COVID-19 diagnostic test at a temporary testing site and waits for the result there, which can take up to 24 hours. The person will be released from quarantine if their test is negative. Quarantine is mandatory if you do not have a quarantine exemption. Korean nationals and long-time foreign visitors with an alien registration card and Korean residency can quarantine at home for 10 days. You can apply for a quarantine exemption if you have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19. The process for requesting a quarantine exemption depends on where you were vaccinated and the purpose of your trip. Short-term foreign travelers may quarantine with family members under certain circumstances. Your family member must be your spouse or a direct ascendant or descendant (a parent/grandparent or child/grandchild, not a brother or sister) and be a resident of Korea (i.e.

a Korean national or foreigner with a long-stay visa). You must be able to prove your relationship, for example, by presenting your identity card, a copy of your family member`s Korean identity card, and a marriage or birth certificate that must be legalized (or “apostilled”). (Documents issued in the UK can be legalised by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office – find out how to legalise a document. Certified translations are required for documents that are not in English.) Your family`s accommodation must meet certain basic standards (usually they must have a separate bedroom and bathroom for you). Your family must also be available to pick you up from the airport or quarantine facility. These rules may change in the short term – your family member in Korea should check the rules before your trip by calling the Korea Agency for Disease Control and Prevention at 1339. If the test result is positive, you will be transferred to a specific hospital or treatment center for treatment/quarantine, regardless of the quarantine exemption certificate. The quarantine exemption certificate cannot be issued after entry into the Republic of Korea.

Thursday, 1. In January 2009, an agreement between Ireland and the Republic of Korea entered into force. The aim is to give people who have been subject to social security contributions in both countries but who have contributed too little to a pension in one country the possibility of receiving a pension on the basis of their combined social security contributions. If the test result is negative, you are exempt from quarantine. However, you will still be subject to “active surveillance,” which includes the daily transmission of health status information via the “self-diagnosis app” and responding to daily calls from health authorities throughout your stay in Korea. Even if you have a quarantine exemption, upon arrival in Korea, you must submit a negative PCR test that has been performed within 72 hours of your departure. (For children under 6 years old, no pre-departure test is required). You must also perform PCR tests within 24 hours of arrival and on day 10 and comply with active health surveillance through the Korean government app. To combat the COVID-19 pandemic, the Republic of Korea will require a mandatory 14-day self-quarantine starting April 1, 2020 for all travelers entering Korea, either at their place of residence or at a government-designated isolation center. This mandatory self-quarantine applies to everyone, regardless of nationality, with the exception of short-term foreign visitors who receive a “certificate of exemption from isolation” from the Embassy or Consulate General of the Republic of Korea before travelling. Before submitting the application for an exemption certificate, please confirm your Quarantine Exemption Permit by email (newyork@mofa.go.kr). The Korean Consulate in New York can only issue quarantine exemption certificates after receiving an official requirement document from the Korean government agency such as MOTIE (Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy), MSS (Ministry of SMEs and Startups), etc.

If your COVID-19 test is positive upon arrival, you must follow the self-quarantine and treatment instructions issued by the Korean authorities. See Tested positive for COVID-19. Further information: Exceptions to the above general rules may apply on a case-by-case basis. A-1, A-2 and A-3 visa holders who test negative for COVID-19 can actively monitor their health instead of quarantining. These visa holders must submit daily health status information via the self-diagnosis app. Eligible travelers can apply for a quarantine exemption certificate through this website. Korean authorities said in May 2021 that vaccinated travelers to Korea are exempt from quarantine, but will be required to quarantine until local health authorities determine that the conditions for exemption are met. In any case, the requirement remains to present a negative PCR test upon arrival in Korea, which has been performed within the last 72 hours, and the traveler must have his vaccination certificate with him if he does not intend to quarantine. Another PCR test is performed upon arrival in Korea and travelers will then have to take another test on the 6th or 7th day after entry. .
