Conservation Agreement Conservation International
Given the popularity of the model conservation agreements with private sector partners, Conservation International launched the Private Partnership Platform for Conservation Agreements (CAPPP) in 2015 to catalyze private sector support for biodiversity conservation and the maintenance of ecosystem services in places of global importance. With the support of the GEF Land Fund and in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme as an implementing organization, the CAPPP establishes mutually beneficial links between the private sector and local communities or landowners engaged in biodiversity conservation, reduction of land degradation, support for climate regulation and the promotion of the sustainable management of natural resources. Strengthen the capacities of local NGOs in Algeria and Tunisia by introducing the model nature conservation agreement. A workshop will provide training on the model and cover best practices. summarize the relevance of the approach for key biodiversity areas in the mountains, plateaus and wetlands of the Algerian Tell and Tunisia corridors; identification of NGOs interested in cooperation; and explore how they can conduct joint fundraising and help NGOs develop plans for next steps. There are 4,000 agreements in 19 countries around the world that benefit 30,000 people and protect 1.8 million acres (4.4 million acres), an area slightly smaller than the state of New Jersey. Of these agreements, 70% are directly funded and managed by government programs, and 30% are implemented by CI and partner organizations. CAPPP: Bolivia – Mutual agreements on water for nature and man The terms of nature conservation agreements are agreed directly with local communities and are voluntary. Municipalities and partner organizations first identify the pressure on the community`s natural resources – such as. B possible interventions by a mining company or foreigners illegally cutting mangroves – and jointly define the measures to be taken by the communities.
The agreements set out the measures and benefits, as well as how everything is monitored and the consequences this will have for all parties involved if they do not comply with the conditions. Under incentive-based conservation agreements, national authorities or local resource owners commit to protecting specific habitats or species in exchange for a steady stream of benefits. By making conservation itself a source of economic development, such agreements offer one of the few effective options for protecting biodiversity outside of national parks and other traditional protected areas. Conservation International (CI) is a U.S.-based international conservation organization that uses innovations in science, business, policy, and community participation to protect the world`s richest regions of plant and animal diversity in biodiversity hotspots, high-biodiversity wilderness areas, and important marine regions around the world. CI`s vision is that we envision a healthy and prosperous world where societies are always committed to caring for and valuing nature for the long-term benefit of people and all life on Earth. Building on a solid foundation of science, partnership and demonstration on the ground, ICR enables societies to care for nature responsibly and sustainably for the benefit of humanity. IS CI committed to helping companies take a more sustainable approach to development? one that takes into account nature and appreciates it at every turn. Some of the main programmes with ongoing activities to support research on human well-being and poverty reduction, implementation and policy analysis include: – The Department of Science and Knowledge (formerly Centre for Applied Biodiversity Sciences) brings together leading experts in science and technology to collect and interpret data on biodiversity, develop strategic plans for conservation and partnerships across sectors.
to shape conservation objectives. The Center for Conservation and Government (CCG) helps CI`s government partners address challenges related to balancing conservation with their respective development goals, economic interests and political realities, and helps leaders understand and respond to the important environmental health issues facing our planet. (www.conservation.org/discover/centers_programs/policy/Pages/default.aspx) – The Center for Environmental Leadership in Business (CELB) engages the private sector worldwide in developing solutions to critical global environmental problems in which industry plays a crucial role (www.celb.org). – The Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) is a joint program of the French Development Agency, Conservation International, the Global Environment Facility, the Government of Japan, the MacArthur Foundation and the World Bank. The Fund is a global leader in enabling civil society to participate in and benefit from some of the world`s most critical ecosystems. A significant number of CEPF grants have laid the foundation for improving the incomes and economic well-being of poor communities (www.cepf.net). – The Conservation Stewards Program (CSP) uses conservation agreements to reduce poverty and improve human well-being while achieving measurable conservation results. Conservation agreements are agreements negotiated with communities in which development support is provided in exchange for contributions to conservation measures and therefore reflects a direct incentive approach (www.conservation.org/csp). The Food Security Initiative draws on the organization`s extensive experience in promoting sustainable rural livelihoods worldwide and in cutting-edge applied research in the field. CI seeks to understand, demonstrate, enhance and use the role of nature in ensuring that people have access to adequate food for nutritious nutrition at all times. – The Indigenous and Traditional Peoples Program is a key component of ICR`s new strategy, which is well positioned to realize ICR`s vision for a healthy world and societies dedicated to caring for nature. Verde Ventures provides debt and equity financing to companies that benefit healthy ecosystems and human well-being, such as agroforestry, ecotourism, sustainable harvesting of wild products, and marine initiatives.
